Gaza, March 26, 2009 (Pal Telegraph) – On Thursday, The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, stressed the importance of lifting the oppressive Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
In a press conference in Doha preparing for the 21st Arab Summit scheduled at the end of this month, the Secretary-General said it is hard to talk about reconstructing what the Israeli military destroyed in its December 27th war on Gaza, unless the unlawful Israeli blockade is lifted.
Amr Mousa said that: "Reconstruction of Gaza at this point is less about collecting additional donations, and more about lifting the siege and allowing supplies to enter Gaza.
He also made clear that this Arab Summit will tackle a number of issues related to the Palestinian-Palestinian reconciliation, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and Arab national security.
The agenda will also address the situation in Sudan, supporting peace in light of the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.
Mousa stressed the necessity of investing in the Arab Summit to bring about a solution to the Arab-Arab conflict. "If we squander this chance, Arab conflicts will became complicated," he added.
In addition, Amr Mousa pointed out that the recent Arab meetings and efforts paved the way towards solving these conflicts; however, efforts have not yet paid off.
