PLO: Olmert Sabotages Peace Process with Palestinians

Gaza, March 26, 2009 (Pal Telegraph) – Chief negotiator for the Palestine Liberation Organization, denied the Israeli Prime Minister-designate Netanyahu statements about presenting a new proposal to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to compromise all the final status issues.

During a meeting between Erekat and US Consul General Jack Wallas in Jerusalem, Erekat made clear that it had been agreed with the US administration that a Palestinian delegation headed by Saeb Erekat and an Israeli headed by Shalom Tarjouman, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Israel, go to Washington on January 3rd 2009, to discuss all the issues raised in the meetings of President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Olmert. However, the Israeli government has chosen, instead, to launch a comprehensive assault on the Gaza Strip on 27 December 2008.

Erekat pointed out that the talks between the two sides were "serious and in-depth", but Israel did not present or hand over any authentic, official documents. "Olmert's statements are merely a continuation of Israel's attempts to shift the blame onto the Palestinian side," he added.

The PLO official stressed that the negotiations with the Israeli side are on the implementation of the resolutions of the international legitimacy according to the international law, which ensure Israel's withdrawal to the lines of the fourth of June 1967, the establishment of a Palestinian independent state East Jerusalem is its capital ad the resolution of the final status issues.

Erekat expressed the PLO appreciation over the US President Obama latest statements, in which he asserted his administration continuation of efforts to achieve a two-state solution.

Erekat called Called upon the U.S. administration to make the next Israeli government fully committed to the two-state solution and the agreed upon agreements, besides urging it to stop illegal expansion of settlement and lifting the imposed siege and closure on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in reference to Israel's obligations stated in the first phase of the roadmap.
