Cee Lo says f-bomb song is 'art'

altNEW YORK , September 2, (Pal Telegraph) - Cee Lo's expletive-laden song has been criticized for being in poor taste, but the musician says it's actually a work of art.

"What I've tried to accomplish, like, is making art products ... so I still believe that (the song) can be classified as art because it's an original piece and the edge and alternative is there, and the integrity is intact," he said in an interview last week.

The song, about a gold-digging ex, is titled "(Expletive) You" and he drops 16 f-bombs in just 3 1/2 minutes over a sweet-sounding, retro groove. The current video is a colorful stream of the song's lyrics and its been viewed more than 3.7 million times in the last 11 days on the singer's YouTube page. An official video will be released this week and the song will appear on Cee Lo's album "The Lady Killer," out on Dec. 7.

Franklin named director of Cleveland Museum of Art

altCLEVELAND , Aaugust 29, (Pal Telegraph) – The Cleveland Museum of Art has hired a new director.

Egypt's Islamic art museum reopens after restoration

altCAIRO , August 16, 2010 (Pal Telegraph- Agencies)- – The Egyptian capital's Museum of Islamic Art -- the world's largest -- was officially reopened by President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday after an eight-year restoration project.

However the public will still have to wait another two weeks until the start of September to be able to view its 25 galleries containing 2,500 artefacts of great artistic or historic value, chosen from some 100,000 items.

Culture Minister Faruq Hosni, who also attended the official reopening after the 10-million-dollar renovation, said the project had resulted in "a great change in the way the works are exhibited, protected and lit."

Among the treasures on show are a gold-inlaid key to the Kaaba, the massive building that houses the black stone in the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Mecca, and the oldest Islamic dinar ever found, dating back to the year 697.

Rare manuscripts of the Koran can also be seen among exhibits as diverse as Persian carpets, Ottoman-era ceramics and ancient instruments used in the sciences of astronomy, chemistry and architecture.

The 1903 building in central Cairo was originally built to house and protect the country's rich heritage from looters of antiquities.

Saturday's opening of the museum comes during the first week of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Nora Roberts' `The Search' mixes love, dogs

altWorld, July 6, 2010 (Pal Telegraph- Agencies)-"The Search: (G.P. Putnam's Sons, $26.95), by Nora Roberts: For those looking for a breezy summer read, and a quick lesson on canine search and rescue, the latest novel by Nora Roberts might do the trick.

Roberts' romance books by and large follow the same story arch, and "The Search" is no different: an unlikely pairing, one partner (usually the man) resistant, but ultimately the magnetic forces of love bring the couple together anyway.

What gives her books a dash of variety is the way Roberts delves into a niche world — from the wedding industry to architectural engineering. In "The Search," her focus is on man's best friend.

L.A. County's A Noise Within Will Move to Pasadena in Fall

World, July 5, 2010 (Pal Telegraph- Agencies)-A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed Los Angeles-area classical repertory theatre company, will break ground for construction of its 300-seat permanent new home in Pasadena on July 20.

The event, announced by ANW co-founders/co-artistic directors Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and Geoff Elliott, comes after years of "comprehensive planning and unusually successful, ongoing fundraising efforts," with $10.1 million of the $13.3 million goal raised to date.

The new 33,000-square-foot facility, which is being called an anchor in East Pasadena's arts expansion, is the centerpiece of a "mixed-use development in the historic mid-century modern Stuart Pharmaceutical building at the corner of Foothill Blvd. and Sierra Madre Villa Ave. next to the Gold Line [subway]." The theatre construction retains one wall of the historic building, but otherwise adds an auditorium and a second story.

The company is slated to move in fall 2011 for its 20th season. ANW's 2010-11 season will be staged in its long-time leased venue in Glendale, CA.

The groundbreaking celebration will include "dramatic flourishes from A Noise Within's award-winning troupe of resident actors, who will offer an entertaining glimpse into the company's past, present and future."

Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and others will take part in the event, which will be attended by hundreds of friends, funders, and special guests from the theatre world, the Pasadena community and the County of Los Angeles.

A Noise Within's new Pasadena home is designed "to expand artistic possibilities, offer a greater scope of educational opportunities, meet ticket demand and allow the company to reach its full potential."

A Noise Within was founded in 1992. It continues to maintain its status as the only year-round classical repertory company in Southern California, staging great works of world drama and offering arts education. The company has presented more than 120 plays from the classics of world literature, each season producing plays from authors ranging from Shakespeare and Molière to Ibsen, O'Neill and Shaw to Miller and Williams.

A Noise Within's new home will be located at 3360 East Foothill Boulevard, Pasadena, CA.
