Egypt, December 28, 2009 (Pal Telegraph) - Viva Palestina Convoy has been waiting the Egyptian agreement on the Turkish proposal before moving toward Syria then to Al-Arish, in Egypt.
The Convoy spokesman Zahair Al-Bairawi confirmed in a phone call with The Palestine Telegraph that they will not agree on or move from Al-Aqaba before getting an official approval allowing them to enter Gaza via Rafah Crossing without putting any other obstacles.
The Egyptian authorities have barred the convoy from taking the most direct route into Egypt by entering the country via the Red Sea, directing the activists towards the El-Arish port on the Mediterranean coast - which is hardly accessible for the group.
British lawmaker and anti-war activist George Galloway had earlier reminded that "the Turkish prime minister personally appeared on live television in Damascus three days ago and asked the Egyptian government to facilitate this convoy; so this is a slap in the face, you can say, to the Turkish government."
