Gaza Strip, December 30, 2009 (Pal Telegraph)- The Palestinian Health Ministry of Gaza said, in its monthly report issued on December 2009, that there is a sharp shortage of medical supplies after the ministry stores have run out of 141 types of medicines and 116 medical necessities.
In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry alarmingly warned of Israel's ongoing shutdown of borders and not allowing medicines and medical equipment to get in, to save patients and those of chronic diseases whose lives would be endangered, if medications are not allowed.
The ministry appealed to all human rights institutions and the International Committee of the Red Cross for urgent intervention, in order to pressure Israeli occupation into opening the crossings to allow in medical aid.
Gaza hospitals and medical centers suffer from acute shortage of medical supplies due to Israel's siege, which has rendered the Strip unable to cope with the deteriorating medical situation.
