Palestine, February 9, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - A few dozen activists for the release of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier who is kept in Gaza, gathered on Tuesday near Hadarim Prison to block family members of Palestinian prisoners from visiting their relatives in jail.
Hadar Miller, one of the event's organizers, claimed: "It is absurd that the Palestinian prisoners in Israel have cellular phones, television with 12 channels, canteen services, and family visits, while the Israeli captive isn't even afforded the right of one visit for three and a half years."
At a joint news conference with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in Jerusalem, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "If Hamas wants a deal, then it will happen," he added: "If it doesn't want a deal, then there won't be one."
Mahmoud Al-Zahar, a senior Hamas official, told the BBC that talks for Shalit had broken down. He said "it was Netanyahu's personal intervention that caused a big regression and retraction in the negotiations."
