Gaza, February 23, 2010 (Pal Telegraph)- Four Palestinians, including three children, were killed Monday night in two separate incidents in the southern Gaza Strip, medics said.
They said that three children, all brothers, were killed in their home in the village of Abbassan, east of the city of Khan Younis, when an electric generator exploded. Five family members also were injured and three are in critical condition.
Several electric generators have exploded recently in the blockaded Gaza Strip. The shortage of fuel has resulted in longer blackout periods and a greater reliance on the generators. Medical sources said that six people were killed in the last couple of months in similar accidents.
Meanwhile, doctors at Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza said that a 22-year-old Palestinian man was killed in one of the underground tunnels on the border with Egypt. He was apparently killed by an electric shock.
Since Israel imposed the tight blockade on the Gaza Strip, Palestinians have dug hundreds of underground tunnels used for smuggling all kinds of goods, including electric generators and fuel.
