Gaza, March 13, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - The number of Gaza residents who have died because the Israeli-imposed siege has prohibited them from receiving appropriate medical care has reached 501.
Yesterday, Ismail Mohammed Ismail, 57, from Bait Hanoun north of Gaza city, died in Egypt – becoming the 501st victim of the lack of medical care.
Dr. Moawiah Hasanen, chief of emergency services in the Gaza Health Ministry, said that Ismail died in Naser Hospital in Egypt because he was suffering from kidney failure.
Ismail’s son said that his father traveled to Egypt for medication when the Rafah crossing opened, but the doctors there said he arrived too late.
Gaza marked this week the 1000th day of the siege, which Israel imposed after Hamas seized power in June 2007. In Gaza, every 48 hours one patient dies.
