Gaza, March 16, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - Thousands of people took to the streets across the Gaza Strip today to protest the reopening of a 17th century synagogue in Jerusalem.
"With our blood, with our souls, we sacrifice for you, Jerusalem," the crowds of mostly school students shouted as they waved Palestinian flags and held up posters of the golden Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem's Old City.
Demonstrations were held in towns across Gaza, including Jabaliya, Beit Lahiya, Khan Yunis and Rafah. The demonstrators cried: "Martyrs by the millions, onwards to Jerusalem,"
In Gaza City, the protests were to meet at the Palestinian parliament, bombed by Israel during its war in December 2008.
Hamas had earlier declared a "day of rage and alarm" over the reopening 17th century synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City near the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
