tunnelsRafah, May 29, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) – Egyptian security forces detained four Palestinians and discovered 17 tunnels during a large security campaign on Thursday night, local sources reported.

Local sources reported that the seized tunnels were empty when the Egyptian security forces discovered them.

The Palestinian tunnels workers were detained on Friday morning while they were attempting to escape the Egyptian Rafah by a tunnel near Salah Al-Din gate. Three of the four men are from the same family in Khan Younis, and are under 18.the sources added.

The tunnels between the Gaza Strip and Egypt were targeted by Israeli air strikes and Egyptian efforts to flood them with water and gas.

Israel and Egypt close their borders with the besieged Gaza. Gazans use tunnels to smuggle life necessities of food and goods into the blockaded Gaza Strip since 2006.
