Prince Misha’l Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, launched a convoy of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza as part of a project of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) at the headquarters of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) ensures that aid it sends to Gaza reaches people who are in need of it and this is the reason why many charities and international organizations trust the OIC in handling relief supplies, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said here yesterday.

“We are very glad to be able to send these supplies to the people of Gaza as part of the humanitarian efforts of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to support the Palestinian people,” said Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC Secretary General .

“I have visited Gaza and have met the people who are suffering as a result of Israeli aggression,” he added.

The Secretary General said that the OIC has organized programs to support the people of Gaza and has set up a logistics office at Al-Arish in Egypt to arrange the delivery of supplies to Gaza.

“This is one of the largest convoys that we have sent, with a cargo of almost one thousand tons of medicine, ambulances, medical equipment, food and clothing,” Ihsanoglu said.

“Many government and private sector organizations have participated in this campaign, such as, International Islamic Relief Organization, World Assembly of Muslim Youth, Makkah Charity Association, Mohammad Yousuf Naghi Company for Motors, Jamjoom Pharma Company, and a number of philanthropists in the Kingdom,” he said.

The 45-truck convoy, which is carrying goods valued at SR11.44 million, will go to Al-Arish Egypt, where the organization’s logistical coordination unit is based, and then on to Gaza.
