Jerusalem, March 13, 2010 (Pal Telegraph)- Daily Maariv newspaper reported that the issue of Israel announcing ratification of the construction of housing units in Jerusalem was serious, and that it caused dissatisfaction among members of Congress in Washington, noting that the term used by American officials was that "Israel has stabbed Obama in the back."
American diplomatic sources maintained: "After Israel had announced its intention for building new houses in Jerusalem, members of US Congress and White House officials considered imposition of punitive steps against Israel to push negotiations ahead.
"President Barack Obama was enraged over Israel's decision, but Vice President Joe Biden eventually managed to calm him down," the newspaper said.
Informed media sources said that Obama had asked Biden to adopt strict steps against Israeli decision regarding settlement building.
No comment was reported regarding steps proposed by Obama against Israel.
