Kyrgyzstan, September 19, 2001 (Pal Telegraph)- The armed Uzbek border guards on Thursday entered the Kyrgyz frontier village of Suroo-Tash in Kara-Suu rayon of Osh oblast and threatened the villagers to stop appearing on international radio, Izatilla Rahmatullaev, chief of the human rights group, told Radio Azattyk.
Rahmatullaev said that such 'raids' of the border guards of the neighboring state in the Kyrgyz villages is a usual thing today. Villagers and human rights groups appealed to the authorities, but nothing changed. The Radio Azattyl already reported about facts of illegal checks of Kyrgyz households by Uzbek border guards and no reaction from official Bishkek afterwards.
