USA, August 1, 2009 (Pal Telegraph)- Woollen animals, a smelly find, a singing pope? Sometimes we need just a little of this and a little of that to take our mind away from all the crises and conflicts around the world.
WOOLLEN ANIMALS
Charles Darwin's treasured animal collection, including creepy creatures in jars and a stuffed tortoise, have been recreated by a team of knitters.
The woollen versions of Darwin's Victorian paraphernalia are part of an exhibition at Bristol Zoo Gardens.
The show, called Darwin's Leftovers, includes knitted hummingbirds, fossils, a life-size iguana, tribal souvenirs and a tarantula and will be on display in the zoo's terrace theatre until August 23.
SMELLY FIND
A skunk is being cared for at a wildlife centre after being found in a garden.
The young female, thought to be about four months old and nicknamed Ozzy, was spotted in the back garden of a house in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
Populations of the native North American animal are increasing in the UK. Ozzy is now being looked after at the Vale Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Tewkesbury.
SINGING POPE
An album featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI is to be released worldwide later this year, a record label has announced.
The Pontiff will be heard speaking and singing in Latin, Italian, Portuguese, French and German.
It is the first time he will be heard on an album, according to Geffen UK/Universal, which is releasing the recording with the Pope's blessing. The album will be released on November 30, meaning that he could be an unlikely contender for a Christmas number one.
LOST AND FOUND
An Audi written off by an elderly German woman as stolen two years ago has resurfaced - in her neighbour's ga-rage beneath a thick layer of dust.
Police said the 82-year-old, from Hildesheim, took the car in for repairs two years ago and the mechanics drove it back to park it in what they thought was her garage. She got the keys and papers through her letterbox, but when she went to get the car it was nowhere to be found. So she reported it stolen. It was finally discovered when her neighbour went to clean up his unused garage.
COOL CUSTOMERS
Nearly 100 illegal immigrants, some as young as nine, were discovered crammed inside a freezer truck by police in Arizona.
After a routine stop officers discovered 97 people from Mexico and Guatemala.
The truck had an inside temperature of 1C but the immigrants had not been in the trailer long enough to be at risk.
CAT FLAP
A tiger used in a magic act escaped and wandered the streets of Las Vegas before being found in a back garden.
Police said residents reported seeing the tiger wandering their streets.
A spokesman said it belonged to the Fernando's Brothers magic act, who managed to recapture it safely.
